Image
By Balovera Edwin Ongacho The following are proverbs found in Olunyala ((K) . The Olunyala (K)  is a sub-dialect of Luhya language spoken by the Abanyala of Kakamega. The Language is internationally coded as ISO 939-3 nle. The following is a collection of proverbs and their translations. The translations have been attempted with an element of direct translation in a manner to help retain the aesthetic value of the original proverb in terms of flavour, content and form. Abachachaka; bosi baumeka (balia) . Even those who never planted; also partake in the eating. Abachi b'olufu; bekesa ebirindwa bya abayindafu . The cowardly lived to show the graves of the war-mongers. The cowardly live longer. Abafwa abasiikhe; bawuma olusekhe. The forefathers who died and are burried have no physical drinking straw. Always respect them and give sacrifices without waiting for them to show signs of demanding. They have no straw to shake as a sign of giving a signal in demand of an offering.
